Jurisdictional Hearing Taking Place November 18, 2021

On November 18th, White City and the RM of Edenwold take part in a jurisdictional hearing with the Saskatchewan Municipal Board (SMB).

This hearing is required due to the question of jurisdiction raised by the RM of Edenwold. The jurisdictional hearing is a matter of whether White City’s application was filed under the correct portion of The Municipalities Act and if the SMB has the binding authority over the application or if the application should be referred to the Minister of Government Relations.

The hearing, originally scheduled for January 2021, was delayed by COVID-19 for nearly a year. The delay has been significant, but the hearing is now almost here. We look forward to reducing any additional delays and moving this item forward.

Pending a decision from the SMB that White City’s original application was filed correctly, we expect a binding decision by the SMB on bringing our communities together by mid-late 2022.

If you’d like a history of the One Community project and how we got to this point, please read the October 2021 Councillor Blog from Councillor Hal Zorn.

We will provide an update on how the hearing went as soon as possible.
